Oregon Surfing...

Today i ventured out to Cannon Beach with my friend Devon and her friend Sue to go surfing. It could have not been a more perfect day to be at the coast, as well as being on the water to surf. It was great. I'm not an avid surfer, but i did take lessons one in Hawaii. I figured i might as well give it a try in Oregon. Thank goodness for wetsuits...It was a great day. Devon coached me through, and i actually stood up on my board 3 times. Now that doesn't sound very good, but it was a 9 ft board, which is shorter than what i learned on, and also fiberglass, which i was told was much more difficult to stand up on. I was happy to stand up 3 times. A girl can only take so much salt water in the face. While the other two were surfing at times I would hangout with their dogs, which was also a great time. (I think i need to get a dog, maybe?) perfect oregon coast

Notice the red face, yeah apparently i didn't put on enough sunscreen. I'm pretty red tonight, hopefully it will wear off soon. Whoops.

When did summer end?

I can't believe it is already Sept 6th. What happened to summer. This has been the busiest summer for me, which i guess is a good thing because i've been doing some many different things. So i guess it is time for some updates:

Labor day weekend:
My friend Mark had some friends in town from the east coast, so of course we got to show them around Portland. It was a fun time.

Sunday of labor day weekend, cristina and i had people over for a little pizza and beer. Cristina's boyfriend was in town from philly visiting, so it was sort of a welcoming party too, at least that is what we told him :) We had such a good time, i forgot to take pictures.

After my work week was over, some friends and i went to Portland Timbers soccer game. There are only two home games left, so I had to make sure to support my team (especially now that there are talks of a major league team, might as well go while the tickets are still cheap).

For marz's last night in town some of us went out to eat at Al-Amir, a lebanese restaurant. It was delicious and i absolutely recommend it for people to try. There was even a belly dancer.
megan give a "no thanks" to learn how to belly dance

the ladies dancing....not too shabby

you too david

Today, i went to the Rose Garden with my little for Greg Oden's Summer Slam. It was pretty much a way to thank pepole who are mentors, as well as try and get more people involved in mentoring. It was cool. Good lunch, fun activities for us to do and of course we got to meet Greg Oden.

i just wanted to highlight the shirt...i think the people of Portland would appreciate it, right David?

Anyways, it has been a busy time. I think it will continue too for awhile. Tomorrow I'm supposed to go surfing with some friends on the Oregon Coast. Hopefully i don't get frost bite. Then, next weekend I'm going to Denver for a little rendezvous trip with my friend Megan and Mike. I can't wait to hangout with them. Then hopefully i can make it home for a few days and visit with friends i miss dearly. I guess that is all for now. Gotta finish baking some cookies before i go and watch a UFC fight...

Lazy Sunday...

Today is one of those days. It is overcast, but still very hot outside or humid as some would like to say. I'm tired too. I slept in until 1230. I don't remember the last time i did that, like early years of college. I enjoyed a nice waffle from jace gace, then having been watching the olympics on tv. Plan for the rest of the day, maybe clean my room, or just watch more olympics and the closing ceremonies. Speaking of lazy sundays...

Olympic Hair...

Do you like wearing your hair tight against your head with lots of bobby pins or hair clips along with a nice big scrunchie? Well if so, then you are in luck because that hairstyle will get you a free cupcake from St. Cupcake. Cristina and I love getting cupcakes, so of course we styled our hair as so and went in to get out prize. The at the store was confused, but we got it all squared awa..y. A little shout out to Jami for informing us of this awesome opportunity. I guess that means i have to do extra burpees at the gym. The cupcakes were delicious and well worth the silly hair. Although, with the olympic spirit i may just keep my scrunchie in...who knows. cristina's gymnastic hair
i think i need some of the sparkly/glitter hairspray and it would be perfect so good....

Crossfit Certification Day 2

So i know this post is way over due...but it is better than nothing. That second day of my certification was good as well. It was nice because it was a little bit cooler outside, the rain came through. I learned some more new stuff, as well as a lot of review of the moves from the previous day. We split off into groups to practice different moves, and one station was the workout, which was 10 med ball cleans, 10 burpees how many rounds in 10 minutes (i did this workout again at my gym later this week, i think i'm done for awhile). It was tough, but not as bad as the previous day. Since i made it through both days without passing out i am now a certified crossfit trainer.

At the end of the day, some of the crossfit trainers were trying to get these heavy balls onto the stand. It was interesting to watch and also how crazy strong some of these people are.

And of course, my sister and i went out to celebrate. Margartia and some mexican food (i'm pretty sure it's zone friendly)

little sis....thanks for being a great host this weekend.

Crossfit Certification Day 1....

Today i went to my first day of the Level 1 Crossfit certification...Let's just say it would have been much nicer if it was not 95 degrees outside. But i guess that is true crossfit. It was a bunch of lectures today, as well as practice the specific moves. My squat is much better now...The big anticipation all day is figuring out what the workout of the day (WOD) is going to be. Many of us were set that we were going to do one of the benchmark workouts, Fran. The WOD was similar to Fran, but a much longer version. They split us into groups of six, boys with boys, girls with girls. Then instructed us on the workout: 400 meter run, 500 thrusters, 400 m run, 300 pullups, 400m run. As a team you start the thrusters after everyone finishes the run, and then the goal is just to get the sets down by breaking it down anyway you can...My team of girls did awesome, but it was definitely the longest 41 minutes of my life. So yeah....i could barely move at the end of it. But i guess this is what i signed up for? call me crazy.

Just a little shout out to my sister who is letting me crash at her house while i'm attending this cert. She has to put up with my tiredness. Love you sis.

We'll see how tomorrow goes....I don't i've ever wished for it to rain or cool down more than i am now for tomorrow.
